1John 1:9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
- The “He” is Jesus
- Jesus has clearly established His Authority to forgive sin
- It is important that in addition to the forgiveness of sin, one needs to be cleansed of their unrighteousness to enter Heaven
- It is only the Blood of Christ and trusting in Him alone that this can happen
- Confessing your sin, not to man, but to God, is agreeing with God that your sin is worthy of eternal punishment
- It is crucial that we understand what God deems to be sin, not the opinion of man; this comes by study of the Word of God
