2 Timothy 1:7
for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.

• When claiming the promises of God we must remember that in most cases He is speaking to followers of Christ
• The gifts listed here, as in the Fruit of the Spirit given in Galatians 5, are gifts from God
• That is not to say that natural man cannot have a level of fearlessness, power, love, and self-control; but that is entirely a work of the flesh
• To be truly fearless of death, for example, the Spirit gives a peace that passes all understanding that natural man does not have
• In the case of anger, vices, etc; we may win the battles occasionally in the flesh, but to be truly with self-control in the face of temptation requires the gifting of the Spirit of God
